Passage out now!

Exitmusic's new album "Passage".  Haven't even yet listened the full album, have to buy it later. Found a page at internet where you can listen it trough. And I totally love this album! Love love! It's for sure some of the best albums or the best album of this year I can say already now!

I love this dreamlike soundscapes they create. It doesn't stay in any mellow stage, but is powerful and strong! And loove the vocals of Aleksa Palladino. She has very very beautiful voice, but at the same time she can sing very rough, but that doesn't decrease the beauty! The voice goes trough your whole body. Later on more!

Florence + The Machine: Spectrum video out!

The new Florence + The Machine music video "Spectrum" is online! It is directed by David Lachapelle and John Byrne. It is filled with shining lights, ballerinas, mermaids, glitter outfits and a very strange hair design. Remember to watch the video in HD, you get it from the small button down in the youtube video box.

Florence + The Machine - "Spectrum"

Anyhows after seeing it two times I find it better that the video for "Never let me go", even though you shouldn't compare them because they are so different songs. I get this old theater feeling from the blinking lights and the chandelier. I like the way of using the light in the video. It's funny that they put Flo sitting on a box of light, I get bit this Lady Gaga - "Born this way" -feeling from it when she's sitting on the throne in the beginning. Actually these two artists have quite a lot common in the styles they have chosen and in the way of working I feel. Both are very visual and innovative artists.

Lady Gaga - "Born this way"

What was the first thing that captures my eyes in "Spectrum" was the strange wig(?) that Florence has. Even though it looks cool when she's throwing her hair I still have bit the image of a...in no offending mean.

But I just can't help the combination in my mind! What I'm missing in the video bit is different colors, now it stays quite a lot bluish. When in the live performances there was this bit church like multicolored windows. I miss more color! Because the song name is also spectrum. I like the costumes more in this video. The long dress looks awesome in the end when Flo is on the floor. But the hair still steals my attention too much. I dislike the "Bvlgari" -moment they had put in at 2:08. Having Flo as sort of a mermaid is kinda cool. It's sort of a mix of Botticelli's "Birth of Venus", indian style headpieces and mermaids.

But Flo already came once out of a shell in a fashion show of Chanel! And how beautiful she looks in that! There's this bit Narnia like feeling in the setting of the fashion show what I like. But the pacing of the walking of the models goes so opposite somehow. They keep this tack tack, when "What the water gave me" is quite peaceful and deep song. But enough from fashion blaadi blaa.

Florence + The Machine - "What the water gave me"

I liked in the "Spectrum" the moment when the ballerinas and others are going crazy at 4:05. It's nice to see that after being all this very graceful and suttle. I would have liked to see more this kind of atmosphere in the video and I think it could have fitted well. Then you get the spectrum of an human being, from very controlled to totally free and with more lights. Now the whole video stays bit distant because of the theater like scenes with all these props. I totally disliked of making this one "mini-florence". I found the image very scary. Seeing Flo in this golden glitter jump suit makes me think totally ABBA.

Check also the Spectrum -performance from X-Factor USA 2011. There are the church multicolor lights!

And here is the behind the scenes of "Spectrum" -video!

KiT - Kuenta i Tambú

Kuenta i Tambú is a band for the summer. They make crazy tropic dance music! I had the chance to see them live at Dunya festival in Rotterdam. Was very happy to see the band, was the best of the festival I think! Listening them makes everybody move, I got this feeling that I could just dance one summer night only to their music. They had some insanely fast beats too! I get happy listening this music! I heard this one cool song that had some tetris sounds in it, unfortunately couldn't find it from internet, but found some other cool songs.

The band members are: Vernon Chatlein, Roel CalisterMonica Mao-Cheia and Roderick Volk.

KiT - "Ban Selebr'é"

KiT - "Wan Polisa"

Check also their SoundCloud page: http://soundcloud.com/aboutkit/

Listen, record and repeat after me! And Now Wow.

...as borrowed from one nice Belgium/French clown with a nice accent. She was cool! ANYhows something else! I got totally stuck into this ONE song today. After playing Loreen's Euphoria like 8 times a day. And still playing that also. Now on repeat is also song from Major Lazer.

Thanks to NOW WOW fest I found this song that was used on their trailer. Later on more about the party!
Here it comes - uber strange mix of different styles; reggae, hip hop, some southern vibes, reggaeton...

Major Lazer - "Get Free"

How awesome is this song! Here parts of the lyrics:

"Never got love from a government man
Heading downstream till the levee gives in

What can i do to get the money
We ain't go the money, we ain't gettin' out
Heading downstream till the levee gives in
And my dreams are wearin' thin
All I need's relief
I need I need some sympathy

Look at me
I Just can't believe
What they've done to me
We could never get free
I just wanna be

I just wanna dream
All of my life been wadin in
Water so deep now we got to swim
Wonder will it ever end
How long how long till we have a friend
Comin' down, feelin' like a battery hen
Waves won't break till the tide comes in
What will I do in the sunrise
What will I do without my dreams

Look at me
I Just can't believe
What they've done to me
We could never get free
I just wanna be

I just wanna dream
We're all together in the same boat
I know you, you know me
Baby, you know me
I Just wanna dream"

And then about the party! NOW WOW is a different kind of a party. Haven't been to it yet, but planning to go next time when it is in Rotterdam Maassilo 9th June. I think it will be quite awesome!

Shortly from the webpage:

"Full of sparkling stage settings, endowed with a raw, industrial feel, the inspiration will flow. Performance art, pop and electronic music in a lifestyle and mindstyle setting. Indeed, Now & Wow Fest is like a living magazine."

Here is the webpage of the party! http://www.nowandwowfest.com/
And a link into Beesmunt Soundsystems mixtape from Now Wow:

Express yourself!

Labrinth. Express yourself!

This song and the video totally made may day, together with Loreen's Euphoria!

Labrinth - "Express yourself"

"I say the same thing twice, I'm awkward when I speak"

Arrow

Finally a single came out from the forthcoming album "Nude" of The Irrepressibles. After having seen them live some years ago hearing the studio version of "Arrow" was a bit of a disappointment. They had put some awkward drum machine behind that messes up the whole song I think. Because the album name is Nude was also expecting something referring into that. But the video was also bit of an disappointment together with the song. Was a bit of a let down when I know how great the band can be! But furthermore without spoiling before everyone else has seen the video here it is:

The Irrepressibles - "Arrow"

And here is the live version from Holland Festival where I saw them too!

I have the feeling that the live version gives more space to the voice, it's more dreamlike song. Where in the studio version the drum machine totally takes that feeling away.

Wuhuuuu! Loreen is the Eurovision song contest winner! The right artist won! So happy that she got the prize. It was special because her act was very very different from the other ones! She showed that it's possible to win Eurovision song contest with talent, passion and love in what you do. It's time to renew the old style of Eurovision song contest and she totally did it! Loreen won the competition with 372 points, she had a gap aprox. 110 votes to the Russian entry that came the second. Eurovision song contest!

Eurovision song contest. The early meeting of artists around the Europe. Eurovision unites a lot of people but also divides at the same time people into two camps. One's who travel where ever Eurovision is going to and those ones who switch it immediately off. I have watched Eurovision song contest since I was teen, so it kind a became a tradition to me in a way, but have skipped several years too. I wasn't really watching it because of the music, but more because of all the stuff what they came up. Every year it had to bigger and crazier stage technique or props. Ship out of costumes, entries out of the most strangest things, backup dancers in costumes in every possible color imaginable (with butterfly wings also, check 2010) and the glitter on top of it all. And crazy light plans! I think it's the craziness of it all together what makes me watch the competition.

The first Eurovision song contest was held at 24 May 1956 in Switzerland and there were seven competitors from different countries. The most famous Eurovision song must be "Waterloo" from ABBA with they won the competition in 1973.

The music is quite often more euro dance style, ballads, save the world songs, or a very strange combination of styles. There has been pirates, super heroes, awkward dresses with bad taste. Often the singers don't have any voice neither, but it feels already like part of Eurovision. They try to cover it with most strangest ways. It's always interesting to see which language the artists have chosen to sing...leather costumes, tear apart costumes etc..It's also awkward to listen when Turkey or Bosnia Hertzegovina are singing in English.
I think the first competition that I remember that I watched was in 2000 when Olsen brothers won the competition with "Fly on the wings of love" or atleast I remember the winner.

Here's some favorites from the years.

Tatu was a very controversial at it's own time they performed 2003 in the Eurovision. For all those who thought that they were a couple read this, copied from Yahoo. It was a big big publicity scam. It's such a cheap and low trick.

"This sounds weird but it was a concept created by a psychiatrist. He somehow thought a lesbian group might be sucessfull because it was more of a fantasy. The group acted as a couple on stage while in real life they had their personal straight lives. It was all a show. One of the got pregnangt, I dont know what happened to her. At some point people began speculating about their personal life and so the truth came out." -Apollo-

It's even worse now especially in the light of this year, when the mayor of Saint Petersburg wrote the anti gay law. Read more from New York times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/01/world/asia/anti-gay-law-stirs-fears-in-russia.html

"Under the new law, which passed 29 to 5, “public actions directed at the propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism among minors” will be punishable with fines of up to $17,000. The law defines propaganda of homosexuality as “the targeted and uncontrolled dissemination of generally accessible information capable of harming the health and moral and spiritual development of minors,” particularly that which could create “a distorted impression” of “marital relations.”  -New York Times-

The song name "Not gonna get us" gets a new meaning.

t.A.T.u -  "Nye ver, nye boysa"

They had later in 2009 an interval act with "Not gonna get us" at the Eurovision.

t.A.T.u - "Not gonna get us"

And one big hit from them was "All the things she said"

Zeljko Joksimovic - "Lane moje"

Hari Mata Hari - "Lejla"

And the same year Finland won with Lordi - "Hard rock hallelujah"

Sopho Khalvashi - "Visionary dream"

I remember that after watching this video I was totally convinced that I have to go to visit Georgia some time! Here is the Eurovision version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMC8xSKdOwA

Same year there was the craziest contestant so far. VERKA!

Verka Serduchka - "Dancing Lasha Tumbai"

That year Serbia won the competition with:

Marija Šerifović - "Molitva"

I was just thinking Charlie's angels when I was watching this video!

2008 Finland had Teräsbetoni competing with their song "Missä miehet ratsastaa"!

One legendary song from them is "Taivas lyö tulta" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSR2E2qXl3M&feature=related

2009 Estonia was my favorite with Urban symphony. It was great to hear them singing in Estonian which is a very beautiful language.

Urban Symphony - "Rändajad"

But that year Norway won the competition with
Alexander Rybak - "Fairytale"

2010 Germany, Lena won with "Satellite" with the sweetest German accent ever!

The next year she went also to the finals with "Taken by a stranger"

The lyrics in the Eurovision song contest are always something very very strange. Song names like "Ding dong", "I'm still alive", "Dum Tek Tek", "Haba haba", "Boom boom". And she's coming out of a boxing glow!

Armenia: Emmy - "Boom Boom"

My ultimate un-favorite is Jedward, from Ireland.

Maja Keuc, presenting Slovenia took part 2011 with "No one". But I liked the Slovenian version better.

Here is also the English version just for comparison.

Jea! And now the 2012! My favorite to win is Sweden with Loreen - Euphoria, other good ones are Estonia Ott Lepland - "Kuula", Bulgaria: Sofi Marinova - "Love unlimited" , Cyprus Ivi Adamou - "La la love", Finland - Pernilla Karlsson - "När jag blundrar", Israel - Ibazo: "Time", Slovakia: Max Jason Mai - "Don't close your eyes", Ukraine: Gaitana - "Be my Guest". The strangest entry this year must be Russia with Buranovskiye Babushki "Party for everybody".

Pernilla Karlsson - "När jag blundrar"

Ibazo - "Time"

Sofi Marinova - "Love unlimited"

And the biggest favorite:
Loreen - "Euphoria"

She was also the only one of the artists who met some opposition members of Azerbaijan in Baku and it became into the news. Behind the Eurovision there were things happening, before the contest some of the opposition member were brought or captivated. The Baku city was cleaning unwanted members away, and also destroying some houses that were still inhabited so that more than 4000 people had to flee from their homes.

Here's some more information about what is/was going behind the competition in Baku.

White foxes remix

I find soo often that remixes often totally ruin the originals. So rarely they actually add something into it making it even better in a new way. Now I have to disagree. Well Jamie XX is also quite a guru in remixing.. But this MAPS remix of Susanne Sundfor's "White Foxes" is sweet!

M.I.A. - "Boyz"

M.I.A. - "Jimmy"

M.I.A. - "XXXO"

"You want me to be Somebody who I'm really not"

This one is very tough to watch so a word of warning, it has violence. But this video hopefully wakes up people to think about that there are still countries that are killing their own people because of being different.

M.I.A. - "Born free"

"Yeah i don’t wanna live for tomorrow
I push my life today
I throw this in your face when I see ya
I got something to say
I throw this sh-t in your face when I see ya
Cause I got something to say

I was born free

Breath of life

Florence + The Machine did a song for the movie The Snow white and the huntsman. It's a massive song with a 107 piece orchestra. Really want to go to see the movie when it comes out! Charlize Theron is playing the queen and looks beautiful in her role! And an awesome costume!

Alors...Lautrec

When I hear Lautrec I think of black cats and cabaret dancers.

But this time it's not Toulouse-Lautrec, but Lautrec, a French hip hop artist. Never really liked french hip hop or rap. Manau little, "La tribu de Dana" "de dana laa laadi daa...".http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPJD_ZnKIqI&feature=related

Anyhow here's also more info from the painter if you want to know more! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_de_Toulouse-Lautrec

But Lautrec has some nice tunes! Check  "Couché tard, levé tôt (feat. Eds.)", "Merci Nina" and "Bikini". They have some style!

Forever and a day, we'll dream our lives away.

Found some nice songs. The Magnetic fields is an American indie band. Didn't hear any songs from them before. They have quite sweet songs!

The Magnetic fields - "Quick!"

Listen also this one, there were no good quality versions in YouTube but check it from bands MySpace site. Listened this already three times, sweet! Here's a part of the lyrics I listened from the song.

"Forever and a day, well dream our lives away.
Our love is here to stay, marry me. I'll give you every color of the rainbow,
they say it can't be done but what do they know.
You'll never be alone, you are my silly sine qua non and I'm a bariton, marry me."

The Magnetic fields - "Forever and a day"

And back to some beats!

DZA - "Surrender (Mujuice remix)"

And my laptop doesn't want to co-operate anymore with me so I'll write the rest of the post later!

DZA - "Finger Snaps ( SHIGETO REMIX )"

Jaa, pa pa padada pa pa daa da.....tii di dii tii di dii

A friend asked today to search for some classic circus music, so was browsing trough some songs and here we have: Oldschool circus music! The first and most know circus song ever, I believe, is composed by Julius Fucik. He was a Czech composer and lived 1872–1916. Although he composed over 400 marches, polkas and waltzes his most known piece is "Entry of the gladiators" which is still up to date used often in circus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Fu%C4%8D%C3%ADk_(composer)

Julius Fucik - "Entry of the gladiators"

Next one is more used in cabarees but also very very traditional circus song. It is composed by German born French composer Jacques Offenbach who lived (1819–1880). Find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Offenbach

Jacques Offenbach - "Can Can (Orpheus in the Underworld)"

Next one also used everywhere and different versions of it. Could imagine this with some strong man acts!
The composer is German composer Richard Wagner (1813–1883). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Wagner

Richard Wagner - "Ride of the valkyries"

Next one is from Никола́й Андре́евич Ри́мский-Ко́рсаков.  Guess who it is?

Just to copy paste the name so I don't get anything wrong let me present you Russian composer Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov! (1844-1908). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimsky-Korsakov
This next one I have seen couple times in a circus show, would fit great into passing juggling.

Rimsky-Korsakov - "Flight of the bumblebee"

This kind of music was often used at black and white films and in silent films. Sometimes also in circus I think. Not this specific song but the genre. Victrola music! Victrola is a phonograph or also called Victor talking machine from the 1906. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victrola#The_Victrola

Ted Weems and his orchestra - "You're the Cream in my coffee" 1928

And lets jump into some newer acts..there are some songs I'd advise not use because they are already so used. But just for fun I want to list some of them here.

Lot of cool songs came more famous trough Matrix. And long black leather jackets! It's one epic example of overused songs. I think I will never be able to see any partner acrobat or aerial act with this song...

Rob Dougan - "Clubbed to death"

Or Darude!

Darude - "Sandstorm"

Gotan Project is also quite well getting there...

Gotan project - "Una musica brutal"

And the most most no no, on the red list. Everything from the soundtrack of Amélie! Especially this one!

Yann Tiersen - "Comptine d'Un Autre Été"

What you see so often that people have chosen such a bad song for their act that brings the whole thing down or doesn't add anything into it. Very often in hand to hand acts you have this lyrical don't go, leave me, no come back -music, where they are holding hands turning, walking away and then turning back during some minutes with this music spinning behind. Or in aerial tissu acts where they are doing those necessary hand movements while doing/ opening a knot, I call this "the strecthy time" when you have this slow "mysterious music" spinning. I would like to see people to be bit more creative with their music choices!

Here's one good example about "the stretchy time" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPII5V2RJes&feature=related or

This is only small part if you want to find more just search YouTube with "hand to hand act", "aerial acrobatic act" but it's also with other disciplines!
